1. A DEVOTED CHURCH
In the Bible we read that when the church was first born the early Christians devoted themselves to 4 things: the Bible, one another, communion and prayer. These 4 core devotions are at the heart of Mercy Church.
“So those who received his word were baptised, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”
– Acts 2:41-42
2. THE GREAT COMMAND
When Jesus was asked what the first and greatest command of Scripture is, his answer was simply this – love! A vertical, all-consuming love for God, accompanied by a horizontal, sacrificial love for others. We aspire to be a church family that is marked by this kind of love.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”
– Jesus in Matthew 22:37-39
3. THE GREAT COMMISSION
Before returning to heaven Jesus left his disciples with a mission that was global in scope and eternal in significance – to take his good news message to the whole world. We are committed to playing our part in seeing that mission accomplished.
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
– Jesus in Matthew 28:18-20
